Kitchen Renovation Checklist for Mallorca

The complete guide explains the sequence. This is the same sequence as a list, for printing.

Before anything

• Who uses the kitchen, and for how many months of the year
• Whether the property is let, lived in or visited
• What the kitchen has to open onto – a terrace, a dining room, a yard
• What the current kitchen does badly, written down
• Photographs of every wall, and a sketch with measurements

The decisions that set the price

• Layout: kept, adjusted or changed – or priced both ways
• Cabinetry level: standard fitted, premium fitted or bespoke
• Worktop material, or an honest not-decided
• Island, peninsula or neither
• Appliances: which, and integrated or freestanding
• Flooring: staying, changing, or continuing outside
• Lighting: task, ambient, island
• Finish level: standard, premium, high-end

The building

• What the walls are made of, and whether the one you want gone is carrying anything
• Where water, waste and power arrive, and whether they can move
• Whether the electrical supply carries an induction hob, a double oven and a large fridge together
• Whether the extraction has a route to outside
• How the room is reached: stair, lane, lift, drive – and whether a worktop slab comes in one piece
• In an apartment: what the community of owners allows
• In a protected village: what may be seen from outside

The order and the calendar

• When the property is empty, and for how long
• The lead time from each company, from order to fitting, in writing
• The delivery date, and the fitting date planned back from it
• Who holds a key, if you are not on the island
• Where the old kitchen goes

Ask every company

• Which cabinetry level and which worktop material has been priced
• What is excluded: removal, electrical upgrade, plumbing, flooring, making good
• Who is responsible for the plumber and the electrician, and whether they are in the price
• The lead time, and what happens if the delivery slips
• Where the kitchen is made, and who fits it
• What is included after fitting, and for how long

When every box is ticked, the brief is written, and the quote form is where it goes.
